About

The medical practice today is largely evidence-based and relies heavily on numbers and quantities. The evidence-based medicine always needs skills to organize quantitative measurements in meaningful ways and place those against the context for better understanding.

Our Epidemiology and biostatistics division provide a platform for connecting and weighing the understanding through generation of new knowledge or strengthening the already known ones with evidences. Our aim is equipping students with the basic skill of dealing with the quantitative measurements that would lead to introducing students to the principles and methods of epidemiology to enable them to design, conduct, analyze, and interpret epidemiologic studies, surveillance and disease prevention and control.

Another area is Research,it is important for students to be able to describe research methods, identify research steps and explain the importance of the research that they are conducting by providing valid arguments. The aim of our research methodology course is to provide educational programme to students to conduct, stimulate, and guide research activities relevant to their levels and capabilities

Furthermore,it is a fact that in the developing world and also in Sudan, 70% of the population lives in rural areas and such rural areas are always underserved. In addition the rural populations are extensively affected with endemic diseases and their consequences. Thus it is justifiable that the students should undergo training in the rural communities to fulfill the following :

  • Target the health problems of the Sudanese societies as regard to different diseases especially preventive disease and its treatment in some regions
  • The good knowledge of the different societies behavior habits, attitudes
  • promote the health education in the region and participate in rehabilitating the preliminary centers in the solidarity with governmental and social schemes

Medical students in the faculty come early in contact with patients, their relatives, staff and their peers. They have to have communication skills, professional attitudes and ethics to deal with their patients and be trust worthy.

In our different courses we aim to furnish students with rules and laws governing medical ethics in Sudan and also raise the awareness of students about the international codes of Medical Ethics,to initiate preparation of the students as future doctors for good communication with patients and their relatives and health staff.
