About The Faculty

The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1993, and the first batch was enrolled in 1994 under the traditional system. In 1998, the faculty reformed its curriculum and adopted an innovative, integrated program that is both horizontally and vertically aligned, emphasizing problem-solving, community orientation, and self-directed learning. The current program follows a five-year system structured over ten semesters, with each semester lasting between 16 to 22 weeks, including examination periods.

The Faculty of Medicine at Alzaiem Alzhari University (FMAAU) is now a well-established institution with more than 3,000 graduates across 25 cohorts who are actively contributing to various fields of medicine locally and internationally. 

Consistent with the wider university framework, the faculty adopts a credit hour system totaling 213 credit hours, with continuous assessment through a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Most courses are organized into modular blocks with defined weeks and credit allocations, while a few are delivered longitudinally throughout the academic year.

OBJECTIVES

Educational objectives:

The objectives of FMAAU aim to:

  1. Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent and safe doctor to provide preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.
  2. Adhere to the established pattern of professional practices within the professional, cultural, legal and ethical boundaries of Sudan and the world.
  3. Develop skills of critical thinking by using problem solving and evidence-based practice approaches.
  4. Enhance postgraduate medical training and continuous professional development.
  5. Undertake research to develop the local community health services and improve the quality of medical care globally.
  6. Respond to the health needs of their community.

 

Educational Outcomes:

Knowledge:

The graduate will be able to apply medical practice using his knowledge in terms of:

  1. Anatomy, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Nutrition, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Clinical Sciences and the principles of Evidence –based medicine.
  2. Psychological principles and methods.
  3. Principles and methods of social science in response to the needs of the community.
  4. The principles, method and knowledge of population health and the improvement of health and healthcare.
  5. Scientific method and approaches to medical research.

 

Skills:

The graduate will be able to

  1. Use knowledge effectively in a medical context
  2. Diagnose and manage clinical problems.
  3. Prescribe drugs safely and effectively.
  4. Provide suitable care in medical emergencies.
  5. Carry out practical procedures safely and effectively.
  6. Practice medicine according to evidence based medicine principles.
  7. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and health team members in a medical context.
  8. Promote the health of individual patients, communities and populations. (Health Advocate)
